“You’ll never find a job in the art field.”
Those are the words I heard as a young college student. Much to my dismay, I listened, dropped out of art class and was miserable. Years later, my husband encouraged me to return and finish my degree. With degree in hand I began my incredible journey of great jobs, fabulous friends and soulful art.
I began my career as a graphic designer, and was elated to be recognized in HOW design magazine self-promotion issue October 1992. I continued to work in the design field and win other awards, notably, Conquer Paper promotional piece, which traveled to the Tate Gallery in London. From graphic design I metamorphous into an instructor and later the Department Chair of Graphic Design and Fine Art, at a small design college. Always experimenting with new techniques and developing my artwork; my interest is concentrated in collage. The desire to create art, deconstruct it and than reconstruct it grips my soul.
Now I spend my time in the studio, working on art and new techniques. I am also awaiting the release of my book "Collage Playground" from F + W Publishers, North Light Books. The book is currently available online (pre-order) and will be released in stores July 2010.
